Mini Spanish Course : Eating at a restaurant

To order food in a restaurant, you will first need to decipher the menu. Below are some basic vocabulary words to help you with this task. It might be a good idea to print this list and have it handy when you look at the menu.

When ordering your food you should say “Por Favor, Quiero (pronounced kee-ye-ro) and then the word for the food that you want to order.

Food Vocabulary:

Menu-- El menú

Coffee—El café

Water with ice—Agua con hielo

Orange juice – Zumo de naranja, Apple juice—Zumo de manzana, Hot chocolate—Chocolate Caliente, Milk – La leche, Chicken—El pollo, Sandwich—Un bocadillo, Meat- La carne

Hamburger- La hamburgeusa, Bacon-El tocino, Fish- El pescado, Pork—El puerco, Ham-El jamón, Bread— el pan, Fruit-la fruta, Pears- las peras, Apple- La manzana, Oranges-Las naranjas, Grapes- Las uvas, Banana-El Plátano, Soup- Sopa, Salad – La ensalada, Onions-Las cebollas, Beans-Los judios, Lettuce- La lechuga,Potatoe- La patata, Cucumber- El pepino, Cheese El queso, Egg— El huevo, Lunch--El almuerzo Supper, evening meal--la cena, To eat--Comer, Meal— La comida Spoon— La cuchara, Knife— El cuchillo, The bill--La cuenta, Fork — El tenedor, Breakfast--El desayuno Tip —la propina.

Caliente — hot (temperature) or warm Understanding and ordering food from a menu in Spanish will take some practice before you are comfortable with the vocabulary words. Repetition of these words will help you to memorize them.
